Starting more groups, editing current groups, etc...

In two weeks time, Coffee Party USA will be releasing an internal Facebook type application specifically for members of the Coffee Party website.  Until then, we are asking that everyone make due with the tools they have currently.  This new platform will knock your socks off.

Please bear with us.  We built it, you came, we have to remodel.

Desert Breeze

I've been reading about it a little, and I think there are: a N Las Vegas, Summerlin, Henderson, East Vegas, Central Vegas, and a Desert Breeze group.

I live pretty close to that Coffee shop where the Desert Breeze group has been meeting but I've had to work the past 2 meetings days. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how that group is going. It's sooo close to my house.

The other meeting places are so far away. I hope this one doesn't get dissolved and reintegrated into the other ones. Everything always goes to the North, East, and South/East ends of the Valley. The South/West part neeeds some love.

Hello!

Just found about this group and would love to get involved. I have kind of a crazy work schedule but would love to make it to a get together.

Any of the Coffee Party that may not know.....

The NV Dems are bringing busloads, and carpools of Harry Reid Supporters to Searchlight tomorrow. We have our permit and private property which has been supplied by a good Democrat and close friend of Senator Reid's. Our numbers certainly don't look to be as large as what the teabaggers are claiming they will have at their rally. We hope to be a strong, positive presence for support of Senator Reid in his little hometown of Searchlight. The Tea Party Rally has not filed for a permit. I live in Boulder City and I can tell you their followers are staying here too. It makes me sick. Leave it to Sarah Palin to lead a bunch who are running outside the law. Freedom to assemble and speak, is one thing. These people are extremists. I am praying for no violence. I talked with someone from the Senator's office and the Clark County is putting extra Metro cops on for tomorrows event.

Looking forward to this weekend

Can't wait to meet up with some of you at the Las Vegas/Henderson meeting on 3/27.
It will be nice to be able to talk to people and not worry about being shouted down.

I hope we aren't invaded by folks coming early to the Tea Party event in about the same area or that if they do come, they come to talk, not yell. I don't mind discussing my views with folks that don't agree but I do like the actual discussion to go both ways.

See you this weekend.

Searchlight Tea Party

I saw the videos of the Harry Reid Supporters/Coffee Party people throwing eggs at the Tea Party buses as they were driveing into Searchlight. What the hell is wrong with this picture!!! I thought the coffee Party was about civility and peace!!! That didn't look like peacefull anything. I deplore any kind of violence. And Coffee Party was worried about the Tea party causeing problems and violence etc. I say take a long hard look in the mirror!!!!

Well, I know that some folks

Well, I know that some folks who are also Coffee party people are anti Tea party but as far as I know, no one from my coffee party meeting was throwing eggs when the Tea party rolled pretty much right across the street from our meeting just a few hours later.

And, just for the record, not all the Coffee Party folks support Harry Reid any more than all Republicans support the Tea Party.

I saw that too

I was pretty embarrassed. I thought we were the ones not allowing our emotions to get the better of us.

Membership

Just joined under my pen name: javamanromeo My given name is David Schiffman... glad to be a part of this group. I attended ythe Kick-Off even at Einstein Bros. on the Saturday the 13th and will attend the event on the 27th. Look forward to seeing every one. We should have a healthcare bill by then! It's a Great Day for America!

Coffee Party With Congress, March 27

Hi to all of you in Central Las Vegas (or anyone else, for that matter, if you don't mind driving!),

We will be meeting again at Einstein Bros. Bagels at the corner of Sahara and Decatur at 10:00 on March 27. We have a 20-person limit this time, and I hope to see all of you who want to have a lively conversation about the issues with no rancor and a good cup of coffee (or whatever you like to drink). We already have a spin-off group in Summerlin, for those of you who live in that area. They should have their group up and running on this site any time now. You won't believe the exhilaration of being able to speak your mind without having someone hate you! Don't forget to go to the event and sign up. That way, I'll know how many handouts, etc. to bring.

See you there. Let's party!

Cynthia McCoy

Tea Party are nothing but racist rednecks

Being a openly GAY male, I would never go to a Tea Party rally unless I want to get lynched on the spot for just being GAY. It's about love and God doesn't hate love. That why I know God would never be against GAY love. I want to see GAY marriage be legal in every state in America. Then we would be close to equal rights as other married couples in America. That is my war cry, equal rights for all Americans espically GAY Americans!!!!

Shows Need

In looking at the turnout for the first coffee party, the American people are crying for an organization just as this one to move their concerns and voice their solutions in a civilized and orderly manner. Unlike the Tea Party, who is against any and everything the government does is the same type of obstruction that we see from the Republican party today. Let's be more constructive and move in a direction that will produce positive results for the middle class American people. We can take back our government in a systematic and civilized manner.
Go Coffee Party. Our intelligent answer to the Tea Party.

Gay rights

I just moved to Northern Nevada a little over a year ago from California to take care of my mother. What a nightmare it's been here in small town redneck America!! I never knew how my life style could be soo hated!! Gays are people just like anyone else. The school board fired me for trying to educate the students on the Gay life style. So now my teaching career is in the tank for the time being. My life partner was beaten by the local rednecks here and the police have turned their backs to it. He has since moved back to California. I thought Obama was gonna bring about real change in this country like more tolerance and acceptance of Gays in America. Now it seems the republicans are doing everything they can to stop any positive change in this country. I just feel like my voice isn't being heard or respected!!

sorry

im so sorry man if you got harrassed. Though maybe teaching anything about it was a mis-step, noone deserves the further harrassment you and your partner recieved.

Like, outside of vegas and reno, nevada is like utah or texas. Obama can't force these places to become as gay friendly as most of California is. Although Cali didnt allow gay marriage, im sure moving from San Fransisco to Elko would be a culture shock for a gay man.

While it shouldnt be that way, it is. Gay rights seem low on anyone's agenda except Republicans, who are always in a hurry to strip them away.

Regrets

Sorry I joined too late for the recent gatherings here in Sin City. I'll be out of town for a few months, but will certainly engage when I return. Good luck in the meantime.

cheers

BTW

When I previewed my post, I saw this under my name:

"Obama is bringing communism to America fast and I am thrilled.."

The admin here should check this out; the Coffee Party doesn't need this sort of thing, it plays into the hands of the cretins.

Add: Okay, when I previewed this reply, I again saw something completely different under my name. What gives?

yeah me too....

i noticed that prewviewing sometimes shows something totally different. 2 of the times i posted something, it said things totally different as well....

curious.. well this post makes 3...

3-13-10 Meeting on Marks St.

Nice turn out for a first meeting with little notice). We had 6 people, all very civil and very informed, wanting to make this idea grow and stay independent of corporations.

Our signs said:

COFFEE and Campaign Finance Reform
Health Care Reform

COFFEE and ACCOUNTABILITY
GOVERNMENT
CORPORATE
PERSONAL

Results?

hi I didn't make any of the coffee houses, but spent a good deal of the day watching YouTube video and must say I liked what I saw.
look forward to working with this movement (even though coffee makes me gag) and watching it grow.
I'm unemployed union electrician, and not a whole lot of prospects out there.
Whatever the results were from todays meetings I look forward to reviewing them.
The key to reshaping our gov't is term limits and a revamp of the all-powerful judicial branch. These two things go hand in hand with giving the power to the people.
see ya!

Decaffinated

I didn't get to attend the first meetings today but hope that I can help in the future.

concerned citizen

I just want to say that I joined this group tonight. I stay away from myspace, facebook, and twitter.

I hope I can look here for further developments on local las vegas stuff. I'd like to get involved and help if I can be of use on a day off. I was soooo glad that this "group" had it's own webpage.

Anyway, I don't know whats going on the popular social networks, and I intend to stay away from them. If some las vegas organizer type is out there- or anyone from vegas for that matter- i hope i can keep abreast of the situation from this site.

Concerned Citizen

Hi Chewy,

I, too, am not a Twitter Critter or any social networking-type groupie. Email works just fine for me! If you have joined this group, welcome! I look forward to meeting you and the other Coffee Partiers this morning at 10:00 am.

Ideal, New Subject Matter for the Meetings

Fellow Citizens,

I may have stumbled upon the answer.

I have authored a book that explains a specific strategy to regain control of our federal government. Though listening carefully, I’ve heard of no other solutions being offered so far. The book includes as yet unspoken analysis, entirely unique perspectives, a full explanation of the logic leading to my conclusions and a step-by-step plan that could enable the masses to re-establish control of our Federal government. Here's a sample

Votimate Our Politics

Our country needs a new way of doing business. Under the current system politicians have many motivations. This strategy could reduce their need for multiple motivations. This strategy could help create a system where politicians are:

Votimated

Politicians Motivated for Votes Only

PREFACE

We’ve heard from the Politicians, the Pundits, the Experts and from all of those who can buy a platform from which to speak, yet nary an answer for that which ails our country. Clearly it is getting worse with no end in sight. Perhaps it is time to hear from “Joe Public.”

I can’t say that I speak for the 99%, but I come from the 99% and after losing everything, perhaps even the bottom percent. How can the 1% get away with robbing and causing such harm to the 99% when the 99% of us control the vote? Armed only with the logic of a layman and the urgent need of a pauper I drilled down deep into this dilemma and made some discoveries that might be worth hearing.

The first several chapters offer unique, unspoken perspectives, intended to expose, categorize, organize and simplify the basic core issues within the bigger issue, our politics, or more specifically, our lack of effective governance for the 99%. The next several chapters offer unique comparative analysis, completely “out of the beltway” ideas and surprisingly possible solutions to the core problems. The final few chapters include stunning, previously undisclosed analysis exposing clearly why we must take action soon - and what the result of taking action could mean for us.

This is not just conceptual. I propose specific action. This is “nuts and bolts.” This is “what’s the next step”, a potential roadmap to restoring a government that works for us, the 99%. Restoring our democracy is the only issue worth talking about. Until we adapt and upgrade our political system, the 99% will continue to lose. Until we do, nothing else matters. Without a functioning government, we have nothing.

INTRODUCTION

I’m not experienced with politics and have no education in economics. Like many, I’ve lost everything and see little happening to bring me hope while watching our country implode seemingly like never before. This is saying a lot because at 54 years old, I survived the horrific Richard Nixon 30,000-dead-to-get-re-elected-war/impeach-a-crook-Watergate era.

Many of us are in need of hope. They say that need is the mother of invention. America is in need of solutions. While most solutions to complex issues include in-depth analysis and long explanations, true also in this case, like most straightforward arguments, mine too has a short answer. So I’ll cut to the chase and work my way backward.

In January 2010, while watching the disturbing display of the four “Too Big To Fail” banksters acting innocent and clueless in front of Congress, I found myself wondering, “How can our country become as successful as these corporations have become?” Even more to the point, how can we, Joe Public, benefit from our government like their shareholders benefit from their successful banking corporations? After all, who would argue that those corporations have pimped our system and punked us all? We know it. They know it. Everyone knows it.

Simply put, it is an industry licensed by, governed by and residing in the United States of America that has become more powerful than the Federal Government of The United States of America. That’s a mouthful. Other than two senseless wars, this is the worst realization of my lifetime. It’s huge. It cannot be overstated. It is bleeding us dry and I don’t see it changing on it’s own. It has stolen our Democracy. But what on earth can we do about it?

The status quo approach would be to peck away at it with legislation that will start with good intentions, but with powerful lobby bribes end up watered down, rendered ineffective and/or reversed by the next congress and administration. First, it is: our political/governing system needs an overhaul from the bottom up. It no longer works, which begs one of many questions, “which specific part is broken?”

To that purpose, I analyzed the differences between how the Wall Street banksters and health insurance providers do business from within their system – the free market corporate model – and compared it to the way the U.S. Government, does business from within our current political/governing system. I drilled down deep and what I found astounded me and might surprise you too. They are very different. Ergo, it’s the differences in the two structures/systems that allow the banksters and insurance providers to be so successful while operating from within theirs and what makes our government fail while operating from within ours, which allows private industry to dominate us.

By comparing the structures side-by-side it became obvious; the deficiencies in our system of governing are glaring and alarming when compared to their adapted, efficiently incentivized system. Upon identifying it the ultimate question arose, “how can we fix it?” The answer to fixing it is surprisingly obvious and has been readily apparent all along, despite the requisite in-depth analysis and long explanation disclosed herein.

My argument’s short answer is to propose applying elements of their successful free market corporate model to our system of politics and governance and we, Joe Public, should be rewarded like shareholders of a successful corporation. Once you go to this simple, logical perspective fantastic advantages naturally arise benefiting the citizens of America, not just the chosen few as it is now. On the following pages I will propose specific, step-by-step methods to reigning in the parasites.

Paradigm Shift

In my view, we can’t expect this type of “system overhaul” perspective and change to come from – or to be driven by – politicians fighting for their careers within our broken system. Ever since special interest groups have been counting profits in the billions, maybe even trillions, they’re far too powerful and already own our political/governing system.

If ever a “grass roots movement” were needed, it is for this “paradigm shift.” The 99% must conceive and drive this change and do it soon or our beloved country will implode from the unintended consequences of insatiable special interest capitalism. So let’s take a page from those who are doing it to us and make it work for us. With the strategy outlined herein, “we the shareholders” can take our government back from special interests.

United and armed with this plan, we can simply insist.

Meeting Time

Sorry, I forgot to post the time of the meeting at Einstein Bros. Bagels on Sahara and Decatur in Las Vegas: 10:00am. See you there!

Las Vegas Coffee Parties

Hi Everyone,

The event I have organized is in Central Las Vegas, at Einstein Bros. Bagels on the corner of Sahara and Decatur. We have a 15-person limit. There are at least two other groups that I know of: one is in East Las Vegas, near Nellis, and the other is in North Las Vegas--not sure of the location. If you can't make one of those meetings, consider having your own event, closer to where you live. As you know, Las Vegas is spread out all over the place.

Be sure to go to the sign-up page on this site and sign up. That will allow the event coordinators to prepare materials for you, as well as have some idea of how many will attend.

This is a movement whose time has come! Don't be discouraged by the negative press about politics and government. There is still time to make a difference for the better. We have the potential to be a positive force for change and true democracy. If you sit at home and do nothing, only the folks who scream loudest about what they don't like will be heard. A groundswell of citizens who are concerned and ready to join together for positive reform can also be heard--especially if our voices are heard as votes. Contrary to popular belief about their lack of brains, politicians can count and add! C'mon, let's party!

Cynthia McCoy (AKA "Grannygeekster")
