Gathering for Brad Ellsworth

I'm working to organize a meet and greet for Brad Ellsworth, candidate to replace Evan Bayh. We'll need help in getting publicity, drawing a crowd and managing the event. We're proposing NW Indiana (Highland, Gary or Chesterton) around July 13th. If you're interested in working and/or attending, could I get some feedback and volunteers? This is a pivotal election cycle and we need to get people INTERESTED and ACTIVE. The liberals seem to be waiting this one out and that bodes badly for the future.

Your new Indiana Point Person...ME!

Hey, My name is Mark Duwe and I'm from Columbus, Indiana. (pronounced same as: D-E-W-E-Y)

We are going to make Indiana the biggest Coffee Part Movement state in the country!

We were born out of the idea that the 'Tea Party' assumed it was the 'voice of the people', but most people just sat at home wondering who would speak for them. As we follow legislation and come together to talk about it we learn about the issues and come to a consensus. No hate speech, no Hitler mustaches, just good solutions to current problems.

We need to get active. If you have a printer I recommend buying some of those business cards you can print yourself and making some up to hand out. Talk to everyone you know and tell them about the coffee party. It's a good thing the 'Tea Party' is starting to reveal itself a bit more, a bit reluctantly though.

It is always good to find common ground. I recommend a book called: 'Getting to Yes'. It was required reading when I took the certification course for being an Indiana business and family mediator. We must never speak badly about any one individual or group of people, not even politicians. What we can do is disagree with ideas.

I believe we can compromise as long as we don't compromise the constitution or the best interests of the American people. In any negotiation, the path to 'YES' can be a bumpy one. We need to come together as a very active and vocal group that will speak for those who want this country to move forward, into the future, and become the best it can be.

We will have influence in elections and legislation. Candidates will seek us out as a voting block. The media will need us to balance stories and BE the story. Join us! If you want to be a community Coffee Party organizer just download the local organizer tool kit and email me or give me a call. I'm always here to help.

New Albany

Laurie, You wanted someone from New Albany to contact you? I signed up to go to the meeting in New Albany Saturday then due to family problem couldn't attend. I don't have names of other 2 people who signed up to go, but I do know the owner of the book store where they were haveing it. He would probably know also who the first person to arrange this meeting is. I could help by contacting him.

Health Care

How proud I am that Indiana's attorney general has joined the ranks of other states' attorneys general in filing suit against the newly-passed health care bill. It's a wonderful use of the state's time and money, and since the state coffers are just about empty and the educational system is tottering on the brink of bankruptcy, among other important things, it just warms the heart to notice that our state government is engaging in a futile and hopeless legal direction.

At least our attorney general will get to enjoy the limelight for a bit. I hope his fifteen minutes of fame will translate into total electoral defeat for the entire GOP!

Leon, it does make me wonder what Mr. Zoeller might choose to do in his future career...hmmm...

I have yet to talk to anyone who thinks the suit is a good idea...anyone on this forum? Shout on out!

To Indiana Coffee Party Local Event Host and Coordinators...

Indiana Coffee Party Local Event Host and Coordinators -- If you have an event planned for Saturday, Sunday or next week, please be sure you create your event on this main website. We need to be sure that anyone interested can find your gathering!

Also, even if your location is yet to be determined, please include at minimum a zip code. Your event will not come up in a map search without it, and we want people to be able to find you!

Plus, on the front page of this site, you will see a small red box just above the Civility Pledge link on the upper right. This "Local Organizer Tool Kit" has a bunch of tools and documents you will find useful!

If you have a chance, please send me a quick message by clicking on "lafftur" next to the date above.

Issues and Thoughts

From reading a lot of the posts on the site, it seems like peoples views issues vary quite a bit. It is a great idea to get a large gathering of people to come together to discuss all of the issues and working together to act on them, which is the stated cause of the Coffee Party from my understanding. Furthermore, coming together to discuss all of the issues and working together to act on them is also the purposed objective of the federal government which seems to be forgotten by the federal government. The fringes of our political system; the extreme liberals and conservatives i.e. the Tea Party, have established such a hateful partisan environment that the federal government has almost stopped being able to function. Extremism in most all forms is never good.
I am not sure how to categorize my views. I know that I am not a liberal, conservative or centrist. I understand that my views are just that, my views, and are not the only ones there are. I am very much open to discussing my views with anyone. And, I am very open to changing my views on some subjects if more information is presented that merits it. With all that said, I will list some issues that are important to me and my thoughts on them. Please feel free to give your opinions of anything I write. I welcome it.

• I feel that every American citizen has the right to good quality health care but that there are underlying issues that needed to be addressed first, like:
o The insurance companies need to be corralled.
o Malpractice litigation needs to corralled.
o The high price of higher education needs to be corralled.
o Prescription drug companies need to be corralled.
• All religion needs to be removed from government period.
o Our country fell way behind the rest of the world in stem cell research simply due to the religious dogma of a single individual.
o The Texas board of education can not be allowed to rewrite the history that our children will be taught to reflex their religious views.
o Decisions need to be made of solid scientific facts and not religious dogma.
o Everyone is more then welcome to believe what they want but do not have the right to push it on anyone else.
o Religion is second only to money as a root cause of partisan politics.
o It is my opinion that religion is the root of most of the world’s issues. It spreads hate and anger.
o Churches should be taxed like any other business.
• There should be no law stating that gay and lesbians should be allowed to legally marry.
o This issue is a waste of time, money and effort that should be placed else were.
o There should be no laws that state it is illegal for gays and lesbians to pursue a relationship though.
• Campaign funding and spending should be corralled.
o Corporations should not be allowed to give money to individual representatives or campaigns.
o Moneys should be collected in a pot and distributed evenly amongst all the candidates.
o I am not well versed on this topic but feel that money should not decide campaigns.
• Lobbyists should be banned from lobbying individual representatives but given the opportunity to lobby to Congress as a whole.
• Drug laws in America need to be reevaluated.
o The past and current way of dealing with the drug problems in America does not work.
o Treatment over punishment for users.
o Use science to determine the best course of action not prejudges establish over 50 years ago.
• The infrastructure of America must be upgraded.
• Energy should be cheap and clean.
• America should focus more on itself and its issue then being the policemen of the world.
• Gun control should be established through education and training, not laws.
• America needs to maintain strong military.

I will stop here for now.

I apologize for being so long winded but I would like to start dialogs on some of these issues.

Palin Targets Baron Hill

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/34873.html

I notice that the 9th district includes Bloomington.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin rolled out a list of Democratic members of Congress she intends to target for defeat this year, announcing that she'll go after lawmakers who voted for health care reform and hail from districts she and Arizona Sen. John McCain won in the 2008 presidential election. Forty-eight Democrats represent districts that voted for McCain.

Baron Hill is on that list.

The man with Parkinsons in the YouTube video

http://www.progressohio.org/page/invite/Bobtellsownstory

Progressohio.org interviewed the man who sat down in front of the tea party protestors, who was then insulted by them, with one of them tossing some money at him.

Bob is a former nuclear engineer, who has two masters degrees and a Ph.D. from Cornell University. He used to teach at the University of Michigan and has had Parkinson's for 15 years.

He sounds like he'd make a great Coffee Party member. When asked what he'd say to them, he responded that he'd ask questions.

They guys harassing Bob in Ohio...

Have those "gentlemen" been identified yet?

Bob.

I'm betting that Coffee Party Ohio is all over that!

To cwr...On the road to ideas

To member cwr: IMHO, any movement for social or political change starts with the "We're angry and we're not going to take it anymore!" We have been frustrated with what has been going on (or not going on!) in Washington and in many state governments. People need to work through the "angry" (by posting) so that they can get to developing ideas. That being said, I, for one, would be happy to hear YOUR ideas.

(Note: For some reason using "reply" to cwr would not work for me.)

I would love to see Indiana

I would love to see Indiana work on:

- comprehensive health care reform, and an embracement of socialized health care ("socialist programs" is NOT a bad thing in the rest of the world).
- civil rights issues (passing gay marriage rights, etc.)
- rebuilding and investing in our cities, especially Indianapolis. reclaim and reuse all these empty buildings and wasted space (as opposed to abandoning and continuing to build out). provide incentives to companies that repurpose these buildings... not to build new ones.
- the light rail and commuter rail system.
- focus on getting young people back into Indy. creating more bike paths and walking areas.

Indeed, people are angry. But how often does calling someone a name turn into something productive? They'll likely just call you a name back. No progress.

Wonderful Ideas...

Now what are your plans for implementing them? How do we get the state and federal government involved? How do we get more people involved? I think the Coffee Party is a great start. As for your local issues, I'm not in your area (Indianapolis?) but I can tell you that some of the same problems are facing the Fort Wayne area. Maybe we need to encourage our local governments to get together and have an "All Indiana" brain storming conference. The standard methods don't seem to be working so I think we need some out-of-the box ideas.

No. I don't think name-calling is productive. All I am saying is that people need to let out their frustrations. If all this site turns into a "vent your wrath" place that isn't good but I don't think that will be happening. I'm already seeing good ideas expressed. Let's focus on the good ideas, like yours, and move forward.

Fort Wayne...

Beanko, keep checking -- there will be at least one event this coming weekend in Fort Wayne...probably at the Firefly.

positivity?

I see a lot of name-calling and language that Tea Party members (and members of congress) would use.

AND NOT MANY IDEAS.

So what is this movement? Is it a movement? Is it progressive? Civil-rights based?

I joined this site, but I'm already considering leaving with so much negativity here. Let start discussing ideas and stop trashing other parties... I thought that was the point...

I agree that IDEAS come first

Playing the blame game & pointing fingers may feel good, but it just delays solving the problem. The issues facing our nation require more mature coping & cooperation skills than the cuurent Congress possesses. I think the first question we need to ask when evaluating a candidate is the one I ask myself. Which one would I leave my kids with? If I can't asnwer yes to either one, I pass on voting that spot. Usually that question makes my decision very easy, regardless of party. When you follow your gut,it normally works. I lived in Illinois, the home of many corrupt politicians for over 22 years. We have 2 former govenors in jail and a 3rd on the way. (Rod Blow-dry)

The first thing that must be implemented is a code of ethics & CONDUCT. That it is neccessary is distateful, but I think a pledge not to engage in attack ads, "swiftboat" politcial tactics, or 501 ads (ads smearing one's opponent that claim not to be associated with a candidate or a candidate's committee, but are in fact, paid for by the party)would be a start towards de-escalating the rhetoric & lowering the temperature. The coffee party should have this as a rule

Good idea

I just heard an interview with Ms. Park on C-SPAN. The "Coffee Party" is an excellent idea. Let's hope that it does not become corrupted from within or without. Ms. Park seems to know that many of our country's problems come from total inablity of the two (or more sides) to compromise. I'm tired of Democrats vs. Republicans, Left vs. Right, talking head vs. talking head, and the whole ridiculous mentality that has caused our system of government to resemble ongoing athletic contests between a bunch of semi-educated, irresponsible, hormore-driven adolescents. Let's get rid of the philosophy that shouts, "My team, right or wrong!"

Greenwood, Indiana Coffee Party

I've set up a coffee party at Strange Brew Coffee Shop in Greenwood, IN.

Full disclosure: I am related to the owner. It's an independent coffee shop with adequate seating and while I live in Greenfield -- not Greenwood -- there's only two of us on the east side of Indianapolis and I don't know any coffee shops there. I figured if no one else shows up, at least I can visit with relatives.

I participate in sports in Indpls every Sat afternoon so I set up the coffee meeting for 6-8pm. There's a Hampton's market next door and a Mexican restaurant and (I think) a Pizza Hut in the same strip mall. The coffee shop also offers sandwiches.

Please register if you plan to attend. If this time isn't convenient for others, I can change the time but I may arrive late if the start time overlaps my time at practice.

I am very new to this site,

I am very new to this site, however, want to become very involved. I am not really sure where to start. So....I would LOVE to attend this meeting. Please send me the final details. Thank you so very much, Dianna Dickerson

West Lafayette Meeting?

Does anyone know if there will be a coffee party event 3/13 in West Lafayette?
It doesn't look like anyone has set one up on the official coffee party site. I'm interested, but I don't want to be the only person to show up. That date is not ideal for Purdue students, since that falls during spring break.

Anyone else here from West Lafayette? Want to meet up?

coffee party

Yes, here's another West Lafayette person. I imagine it's too late to get anything started, but perhaps we can work on another opportunity.

Ideal Subject Matter for the Meetings

Fellow Citizens,

I may have stumbled upon the answer.

I have authored a book that explains a specific strategy to regain control of our federal government. Though listening carefully, I’ve heard of no other solutions being offered so far. The book includes as yet unspoken analysis, entirely unique perspectives, a full explanation of the logic leading to my conclusions and a step-by-step plan that could enable the masses to re-establish control of our Federal government. Here's a sample

Votimate Our Politics

Our country needs a new way of doing business. Under the current system politicians have many motivations. This strategy could reduce their need for multiple motivations. This strategy could help create a system where politicians are:

Votimated

Politicians Motivated for Votes Only

PREFACE

We’ve heard from the Politicians, the Pundits, the Experts and from all of those who can buy a platform from which to speak, yet nary an answer for that which ails our country. Clearly it is getting worse with no end in sight. Perhaps it is time to hear from “Joe Public.”

I can’t say that I speak for the 99%, but I come from the 99% and after losing everything, perhaps even the bottom percent. How can the 1% get away with robbing and causing such harm to the 99% when the 99% of us control the vote? Armed only with the logic of a layman and the urgent need of a pauper I drilled down deep into this dilemma and made some discoveries that might be worth hearing.

The first several chapters offer unique, unspoken perspectives, intended to expose, categorize, organize and simplify the basic core issues within the bigger issue, our politics, or more specifically, our lack of effective governance for the 99%. The next several chapters offer unique comparative analysis, completely “out of the beltway” ideas and surprisingly possible solutions to the core problems. The final few chapters include stunning, previously undisclosed analysis exposing clearly why we must take action soon - and what the result of taking action could mean for us.

This is not just conceptual. I propose specific action. This is “nuts and bolts.” This is “what’s the next step”, a potential roadmap to restoring a government that works for us, the 99%. Restoring our democracy is the only issue worth talking about. Until we adapt and upgrade our political system, the 99% will continue to lose. Until we do, nothing else matters. Without a functioning government, we have nothing.

INTRODUCTION

I’m not experienced with politics and have no education in economics. Like many, I’ve lost everything and see little happening to bring me hope while watching our country implode seemingly like never before. This is saying a lot because at 54 years old, I survived the horrific Richard Nixon 30,000-dead-to-get-re-elected-war/impeach-a-crook-Watergate era.

Many of us are in need of hope. They say that need is the mother of invention. America is in need of solutions. While most solutions to complex issues include in-depth analysis and long explanations, true also in this case, like most straightforward arguments, mine too has a short answer. So I’ll cut to the chase and work my way backward.

In January 2010, while watching the disturbing display of the four “Too Big To Fail” banksters acting innocent and clueless in front of Congress, I found myself wondering, “How can our country become as successful as these corporations have become?” Even more to the point, how can we, Joe Public, benefit from our government like their shareholders benefit from their successful banking corporations? After all, who would argue that those corporations have pimped our system and punked us all? We know it. They know it. Everyone knows it.

Simply put, it is an industry licensed by, governed by and residing in the United States of America that has become more powerful than the Federal Government of The United States of America. That’s a mouthful. Other than two senseless wars, this is the worst realization of my lifetime. It’s huge. It cannot be overstated. It is bleeding us dry and I don’t see it changing on it’s own. It has stolen our Democracy. But what on earth can we do about it?

The status quo approach would be to peck away at it with legislation that will start with good intentions, but with powerful lobby bribes end up watered down, rendered ineffective and/or reversed by the next congress and administration. First, it is: our political/governing system needs an overhaul from the bottom up. It no longer works, which begs one of many questions, “which specific part is broken?”

To that purpose, I analyzed the differences between how the Wall Street banksters and health insurance providers do business from within their system – the free market corporate model – and compared it to the way the U.S. Government, does business from within our current political/governing system. I drilled down deep and what I found astounded me and might surprise you too. They are very different. Ergo, it’s the differences in the two structures/systems that allow the banksters and insurance providers to be so successful while operating from within theirs and what makes our government fail while operating from within ours, which allows private industry to dominate us.

By comparing the structures side-by-side it became obvious; the deficiencies in our system of governing are glaring and alarming when compared to their adapted, efficiently incentivized system. Upon identifying it the ultimate question arose, “how can we fix it?” The answer to fixing it is surprisingly obvious and has been readily apparent all along, despite the requisite in-depth analysis and long explanation disclosed herein.

My argument’s short answer is to propose applying elements of their successful free market corporate model to our system of politics and governance and we, Joe Public, should be rewarded like shareholders of a successful corporation. Once you go to this simple, logical perspective fantastic advantages naturally arise benefiting the citizens of America, not just the chosen few as it is now. On the following pages I will propose specific, step-by-step methods to reigning in the parasites.

Paradigm Shift

In my view, we can’t expect this type of “system overhaul” perspective and change to come from – or to be driven by – politicians fighting for their careers within our broken system. Ever since special interest groups have been counting profits in the billions, maybe even trillions, they’re far too powerful and already own our political/governing system.

If ever a “grass roots movement” were needed, it is for this “paradigm shift.” The 99% must conceive and drive this change and do it soon or our beloved country will implode from the unintended consequences of insatiable special interest capitalism. So let’s take a page from those who are doing it to us and make it work for us. With the strategy outlined herein, “we the shareholders” can take our government back from special interests.

United and armed with this plan, we can simply insist.

Perhaps this will help

Please first see my apologies in my first response to you, below.

Here is why I am confident that we can get almost anything we request, within reason, in a constitutional ammendment. Until now, I have refrained from "cutting to the chase" feeling that my progression of logic was necessary, but I will attempt to abbreviate my key premise.

Attached to my proposed costitutional ammendment which includes all of the reforms we want, will also be an upgrade to Congress's pay scale, bringing their pay and benefits commensurate to industry standards for "Executives" who make billion dollar, even trillion dollar decisions. If we don't pay them, someone will; in fact they are.

In my book, and after 49 pages of logic based case building to effectively eliminate all unnecessary split loyalties inherant in our system I propose the following:

#1 Increase Conressmen and Senator pay: from $186,000 per year to $2 million per year. This results in an annual cost of just 7% of what Goldman Sachs bonused their people with our money in 2009.

#2 Increase their pensions: from about $60,000 maximum per year to $25,000 per year served. This would add less than 3% of what Goldman Sachs bonused their people in 2009, with our money.

#3 Pay for their campaigns: In 2004, roughly $4 billion was spent on campaigns, a national election, but if we were to be very conservative and calculate that as an annual cost, it would cost about 25% of what Goldman Sachs bonused their people in 2009, with our money.

It appears that we are spending this money already, so why not make it work for us and EARN their loyalty. This is how the corporations are beating us. All of the itemized calculations are in the book. But here are some:

If you calculate the $23 trillion that has been given by the fed to private banks since 2006, and add it to the $5 trillion Bush cost us, plus the future commitments of $3 trillion left by Bush, add in a few trillion in losses on the stock market and another trillion or two from losses in home values, I surmise in the book that we had a possible $35 trillion shift in wealth from the middle class masses, the 99%, to the Aristocracy, the 1%.

If that's true, and it certainly appears to me that it is, then had we paid our "executives" this amount over the past decade it would have amounted to $45 billion in tax dollars, and we might not have had the $35 trillion heist. $45 billion is roughly one one thousandth, (1/1000) of what we lost.

This could be wildly popular within congress, so let's ask for everything we want all at once.

Since Congress has such a low approval rating, I fear for most it is hard to reach this perspective unless first going through the progression of comparing the free market corporate system structure of "incentivization" to our existing political system structure, which I do in detail in the book.

This is why my exuberance in referring people to the book rather than just cutting to the chase. What do you think? Wouldn't this be a way to get an extensive constitutional ammendment enacted, which could also eliminate the need for any more split loyalties?

If you would like to see my proposed ammendment I will gladly post that upon your request. Again, my apologies for my inconsiderate first posting

JP

apologies

You are correct and I apologize. I just finished the book and was very excited. The next day, realizing what I had done I tried to revise but for some reason was unable to. I make no money at the price offered. I will be more respectful in the future.

My ideas are inverted from standard logic and take some explaining. I think the progrssion of logic is important. Until I can find a way to explain it simply in a few paragraphs I'll refrain from posting.

Your feedback was appropriate and appreciated.

i make great coffee, and would love to surround my self with intelligent, like

i am pleased to see there are

i am pleased to see there are some liberal dems expressing interest here. i have found on other coffee party boards there is no stated agenda or stance. just if you have any gov dissatisfaction this is the place to be. and on most coffeeparty boards there are numerous teabaggers, and strong encouragement from moderators for coffee to join in civil discussion with them, and to consider uniting with them for rallies etc. find our common ground of dissatisfaction.

i will watch to see how coffee evolves, but wish they would get clear cut on their specific agenda, which gov issues they believe should be protested, the candidates coffee might eventually support or protest, etc.

my concern is i may strongly support healthcare reform and be pro obama and anti obstructionists...i may be rallying for those while other coffee folks are protesting them. that would make the whole movement appear haphazard and confusing imho. patiently waiting to see what comes of all the non-defined march activities ;-) hope they go in a way i can be excited about!

The statement quoted above really was the hook for me. We can work out the details, I think. I'll be checking back to see how it's going. Anyone else in Bloomington?

Bloomington Indiana Coffee Party

Hi everyone in the Bloomington/South Central Indiana Area. I want to take this opportunity to welcome to anyone interested in the Coffee Party USA in our general area and Thank You anyone who attended our first ever meeting that took place today. We had a great time and things went very smoothly. Unfortunately no media turned out but hopefully that will be remedied next time. What follows is a editorial to the media in the area as well as to iReport on CNN.

Today was a groundbreaking day in the history of Bloomington IN. Today we celebrated the kick-off of our local “chapter” of Coffee Party USA! Coffee Party USA is a new grassroots movement that promotes positive discourse between all members of community no matter what your political affiliation and is an awesome new concept that we hope brings our community together in a positive way. We met at the Pour House Café located at 314 E Kirkwood Ave in Bloomington IN and will continue to do so as long as we fit. The meeting had 17 adult attendees ranging in age from 20 to around 70 (although we didn’t ask) and 4 children. This turn out was better than we expected as we only had 5 confirmed guests. The purpose of this movement in our own words is to discuss political views in a civil safe atmosphere with a respect for everyone’s point of view. As this was the first meeting everyone was introduced and a small amount of information was shared pertaining to why each of us was at the meeting and what some of our expectations were through the Coffee Party USA Movement. In general participants expressed a desire to get away from the lack of respect and intolerance for others points of view and the hostility that surrounds presentation of opinion in many other public forums. They were also hopeful that this movement will actually work to promote the ideal of “everyman and everywoman”, that it will allow us to gather all the facts from every aspect of the coin and discuss them in a safe environment, and that all political affiliations could actually reach a common ground that could then be taken to governing officials. A future meeting will be held on March 27 from 11:30-1:30 at The Pour House Café. We invite everyone no matter your political affiliation to join us for discourse in a safe and civil environment in an effort to bring government back to the people. To our knowledge this is the only Coffee Party USA group meeting in the South Central Indiana area and we had people from as far away as Columbus and Indianapolis Indiana joining us. Thanks to all that joined us we are very excited to continue this and see what evolves!

We will keep you up to date on developments in our area. We have been honored with the volunteered support of two participants who have offered to do a local web site and will be letting everyone who attended know of this as soon as we ourselves know.

Look for us in the local media, Hearald Times/Hoosier Times Online IDS/Indiana Daily Student and Local Bloomington Indiana Radio Stations for times and locations of future meetings.

Shout-out to b-town cp

Please let me know when the next Bloomington meeting will be. I've been lurking the site for a little while now, and have just been waiting to see how much interest sprung up here in my town. Sounds like you guys didn't disappoint. Hope to see everyone soon!

the statement that hooked you

the statement that hooked you is waay too generic and noncommittal to ANYTHING and EVERYTHING except that wild card terminology of "dissatisfied" to hook me. a government accountable to the people is alive and well in my opinion. liberty and justice for all will always leave some segments of the population disgruntled. satisfaction for one group will always be the angst of those against whatever is enacted. we have to see less platitudes from coffeeparty and more specifics or we are just lemings being led by dangled carrots of vague phrases.

yes i have changes i want to support! i do not have any yardstick with which to measure whether what i want is what the coffeeparty wants because they are so vague and vary extremely city to city. until the coffeeparty puts in writing and action what its priorities and intentions are, i am sitting back and observing where it is eventually led.

I'm in Bloomington. Our

I'm in Bloomington. Our Coffee Party will be at the Pourhouse:

Not in persay...

But from Bloomington. I'm at school right now by I go back every once in awhile for weekends or breaks.

goals of TCP

I don't know what all the goals are either, but on the ABOUT US page it says,

"We demand a government that responds to the needs of the majority of its citizens as expressed by our votes and by our voices; NOT corporate interests as expressed by misleading advertisements and campaign contributions."

I can buy into that.

Another Progressive

I am also a liberal/progressive and I thought the Coffee Party was an antidote to the Tea Party. I think that most Democratic centrists (like Bayh) cater to the right and are afraid to get any real work done. I did like Bayh's op ed piece he wrote in the New York Times though, about why he's leaving.

snowblossom from what i have

snowblossom from what i have seen on other coffeepartymovement boards, it is actually not to be an antidote of the teabag groups, it is intended to be a melding of them with us and everyone/anyone who has any dissatisfaction at all with our gov. that is my concern. i feel the teabaggers made their case for the last year with their hate based and lie based and obstructive messages, signs, and behavior. i want no affiliation with them. that is why i am waiting to see how the coffeeparty evolves. looks in their other sites like the whole reason for the movement might be to become a socially acceptable member-swollen movement just to help teabaggers gain acceptance.

i am pro obama. my idea of a problem in our government will not be a teabaggers view of whats wrong with it. i want to work to vote in candidates who will support healthcare, support voting on and hopefully passing the hundreds of legislative bills with reforms for many problematic issues which the republicans have on hold, support voting out all elected officials who are obstructing based on their personal or religious views rather than the real-time needs of their constituents.

some regional coffeeparty groups support what i support. and many support libertarianism ron paul politics or firm right leaning politicians. see what concerns me here? coffee party banners will be waved by some of us proudly supporting one specific political mindset with a sincere intent to uphold the good and sweep the not-good out, while across the street in front of the same msm cameras will be others waving the same coffeeparty banners protesting exactly what the other group is supporting. it makes a laughing stock of the whole idea of coffeeparty.

i agree on your thoughts about evan bayh. i am wondering if the reason he will not run is because he wants mitch daniels job?

Gridlock

The Coffee Party is much more my cup of tea than the Tea Party is! The Tea Party scares me. So does the way government is going. My take on all of this is that nothing will be changed unless we reform campaign finance laws. Big business (includiing banking and Wall Street) are running and ruining this country. The Supreme Court has recently made it even easier for companies to buy our representatives. This has to stop. I've written letters to Congressional and Senate representatives and receive those lovely "canned" responses back. No one is paying attention to the people and their needs. Health care and jobs need to be the focus. Maybe The Coffee Party will be a way for the average American to let their voices be heard. I sure hope so!
