Annabel was never paid by the Obama campaign, but she worked very hard as volunteer, as did millions of other Americans. A newspaper inaccurately reported that Annabel held a videographer position. But, if there is anyone who cares about such things, and also cares about getting their facts straight, the truth is very easy to verify.
To date, neither Annabel nor her partner Eric Byler have ever been hired by a political campaign or by a political organization. They are active citizens who, as volunteers have knocked on doors, made phone calls, and made videos:

They are proud of a record of inventive civic engagement and have nothing to hide. If they didn't want people to see their work, they wouldn't have put it on YouTube!

I consider myself to be an Obama Democrat
I never 'joined' the Democratic Party, but you have to choose in the primary here in Illinois and I am more attracted to the Democratic Candidates. When then-Senator Obama came on the scene, I followed him with mild interest and then more interest as I agreed with his philosophy. I donated money to his campaign and then worked for him as a volunteer.
What has always bugged me is the Democrats who ask for money thinking that because I worked for Obama, I am a loyal Democrat. I'm not. The Coffee Party seems to allow me the opportunity to say I am looking for the candidates that reflect the same views as President Obama. And frankly, I don't think some Democrats have those views.
So like Annabel and lots of you folks, Obama woke up a sleeping beast in me. I care, I think, I give, I vote. And thank you Annabel for giving me a forum to say just that.
Good Post Rich H
Thanks for your insightful Post.
I am simply amazed at the Conservative Christian Right neighbors and co-workers that were friendly towards me until I let it be known that I voted for and still support President Obama.
I simply don't understand why they want to live in some sort of self-rightous bubble.
Could it be that anyone who questions their robotic mindset is a threat?
If anyone believes that making the Government submissive to Big Business is the answer then I would suggest you start a Bernie Madoff fan club.
The bottom line is that we need responsible monitoring for both Government and Big Business.
Why do certain people support the spending of billions and billions of dollars on Government "Defense Care" while opposing Government "Health Care" ?
One thing I hope we all can agree upon - every problem we face as a Nation can make us stronger if we work together for a better tomorrow for all Americans.
LIVING LEGENDS
Shouldn't we be celebrating Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and Fr. Pfleger receiving their Living Legend awards tonight in Chicago? This is big news!
I live in Chicago
This isn't even news.
So the Chicago Defender gives them an award, big deal.
On the other hand, all three have tried to do something in their lives to change the nature of life on the south side of Chicago. I respect that. I don't agree with their methods, but they are all activists in their fight for poor people.
But is it important? nope. Is your post relevant? again nope.
Who Cares
I couldn't care less if annabel worked for the Obama capaign. If anything , credit to her for going with the winner. And given the alternative during the General election, McCain/ Palin, I would think a lot less of her if she saw leadership in Sarah Palin.
Ms Park, I have you Know, we are with you. Besides, this is not about the past, we are trying to secure the FUTURE. "Real Democract" seems like a Neocon troll. Or maybe a Teabagger feeling INSECURE. And I advise "Real Democract" membership in the Coffee Party is STRICTLY voluntary. If the shoe doesn't fit- don't force it. In the meantime, WE are moving forward. By leaps and bounds, I might add.
PS
Annabelle, we love ya. Keep up the good work.
And....
....there is a Hitler love fest for you Tea Partiers to attend! Seriously, you are one reason why the Coffee Party was created. Americans are sick of your right wing tactics! So move on Tea Partier.....the Coffee Party (coffee is what hard working/blue-collar Americans drink!) is here and we will be a positive force.
OBAMA THE WINNER.
I hope this type of movement continues and is successful. Being a former democrat here in California, I'm now a registered "Decline-to-State" voter who enjoys being able to not feeling obligated to drink the Political Party Kool-aid any longer. And in California, drinking the Party Kool-Aid has gotten our state to the point of being bankrupt. So sad. But I feel better....
Annabel
So she worked for the Obama Campaign and continues to work for President Obama....so what!!! She's still a cutie....
Obama's army
GOOD for her,she backed a winner. Is that why you are crying?
Shut up and stand there and let the republicans keep calling you sheep.
You act just like one,you would rather be disrespected by the GOP.Than stand up for our Prez.
I am glad that I am a DEM.All the GOP can do is try to get you to be in fear of Obama, the GOP is what you better be looking at.
Who Cares That Annebel Park worked the Obama Campaign!
Good afternoon all,
I fail to see the point! So what if Annebel Park was, or was not a Campaign volunteer, paid political activist or whatever for the Obama campaign.
The Obama for President campaign was the largest and most successful "grassroots" political campaign in modern history. This grass roots movement elevated a little known Junior U.S. Senator from Illinois and elevated him to President of the United States with 53% of the vote.
This movement even defeated the awesome power of the Clinton Political Machine.
It makes no difference if you like Barack Obama or not, The grass roots movement that put him into office is a very, very successful model of a truly effective grassroots organizing that put together a diverse coalition of disaffected Republicans, First Time Voters, Moderates, Liberals, Young and Old.
I hope there are more political operatives from the Obama Campaign here so we can try to duplicate this truly successful model.
Regards,
Tom

Expect more attacks
Unfortuently we should expect more misinformation and probably more attacks from the Right. This is the new norm in regards to the political climate. But I'm glad that the issue has been clarified.
One thing that I feel we must constantly maintain as a group is the pledge of civility. So regardless of how nasty the other side gets we must always stay above it. I know this is hard and at times the urge to retaliate will be overwhelming. But if we are going have a positive impact on the political process we must do it with truth, honor and integrity.
The pundits from the Right and Left have done an outstanding job at dividing this Country. They create these negative buzz's so that they can stir things up and drive their ratings. FN, MSNBC and the rest of the mainstream media seem much more interested in being advocate networks rather than just reporting the news. They all seem to be more interested in creating it.
Let's keep it out front, honest, fact based and Civil and see where it all goes.
Good luck everyone,
John
How can we work together for
How can we work together for a government that works and listens to the majority of Americans if we're going to blame people on the Right or people on the Left here in private comments? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of the Coffee Party?
Data gathering...
Google is our friend. Anyone with the capacity to interface with the internet can use it. Not to do so would be very poor research, as any web search is low-hanging fruit in investigation. Some of the reactionary bloggers have apparently only now discovered it.
Be proud of what you've done, everyone!
Anabel Park may have worked
Anabel Park may have worked for the Obama campaign, but the point is that she is willing to SHOW SOLIDARITY IN SPITE OF HER PERSONAL OPINIONS. That is the whole point of the Coffee Party. If a Republican campaign worker had started the movement the point would remain the same. It is time to grow up and work together to bring our country together via We The People.
Besides, it's our group, right?
It is yours
In some ways, Katie, we are creating a model of our democracy where the people have the lion's share of the control, and the corporate media, the lobbying companies, and our elected officals cannot manipualate what we think. They're not telling us, we're telling each other.
So yes, it belongs to us, unless we refuse to participate. This is true of the democratic process as well.
This is why it's disappointing that people are finding so many tactics to stop us from going through this process, including making bogus arguments.
Anyway, the word is "volunteer." We need to make that clear because all of this is about civic pride and the spirit of volunteerism.
No one will be getting paid to sit down to coffee (or tea) on March 13th. We'll be there because we want to be there. Becasue we want to particpate. It's a beautiful thing.
Truth is beauty. Let's give
Truth is beauty. Let's give our great country a metaphorical spa day!
Hello all
I am the newest member of the Coffee party online team. I am a political independent and that is reflected in my online handle. In the spirit of full disclosure I joined the Coffee Party with a history of being a blogger and sometime activist for and advocate for third parties and political independents. I am known as the "Liberal Arts Dude" elsewhere in the blogosphere. I am glad to be part of the team and will be blogging my thoughts about what it means to be a political independent in the Coffee Party movement pretty soon!
"Liberal Arts Dude"
How cool! I'm a liberal arts refugee myself...
THANK YOU SO MUCH INDY COFFEE PARTY DUDE
One of the many blessings that have come to us in recent weeks has been the outpouring of support, creativity, advice, and opinion from so many different perspectives. Diversity of thought and diversity of background has made us so much stronger than any one person or one leader could have ever come up with on their own.
The impetus for the Coffee Party, of course, began as a resistence to or even a rejection of the Tea Party's tactics, and a mainstream media narrative that posits the Tea Party as the only grassroots player on the political stage.
But thanks to the input and guidance of so many people like ICPD, we were able to build a consensus around the idea of being FOR democracy and FOR reform, rather than against the Tea Party. It has been an education so far. Our minds are expanding so quickly thanks to the alchemy of collaboration. ICPD was there from the start, and we are so much stronger for it. Thank you.
It's unfortunate that this is
It's unfortunate that this is even posted. Why does anyone care about the who this site's creator may have worked for? After all, this is a forum for discussion, a collective effort to seek out solutions to the problems this country faces. If you don't agree with her stance (which as far as I can tell is simply promoting polite political discourse) then post your comment of opposition. Someone will likely agree with you as this appears to be a diverse group.
I guess rational conversation just scares the hell out of some folks.
"Thoughtful and courteous conversation? SOCIALIST!!!"
Exclusion
If an unwritten rule is that no one who avidly supported Barack Obama can be a member, it's going to be a very small group!
Doubt that
I am one who was interested in Obama, but also a number of other candidates. I suspect that not everyone who can support the notions of discourse and cultural contribution was merely an "avid" Obama supporter.
I agree. Whether or not she
I agree. Whether or not she is an obama plant to sow the seeds of a "grassroots" movement does not invalidate the mission statement or the beliefs of the members of that movement.
Point well taken Oliver, you are a smart man
Those who voted in 2008 probably voted for either Obama or McCain. Thus, who ever proposes developing a forum for collaboration to improve our democracy, at least 47% of the rest of us could, on those grounds, decide not to participate.
I mean, Meghan McCain makes a lot of sense to the majority of Americans. But if she had proposed the same thing, I'm sure a quick Google search would have suggested her preference in 2008. Can you imagine the flurry of blog posts we would see from left wing law professors and amateur pundits "exposing" and decrying the fact that Meghan had supported her dad?
But yeah, I get your point. Meghan voted for her dad, so what? McCain would have made a great president. I'll bet the vast majority of Obama voters would agree with me on that. But there would be those on the far left demanding that we all refuse to participate. Some would oblige, probably most would not, meaning our journey here would be defined initially by a broad consensus. Not a bad place to start.
If there's one thing we all agree upon, it's that we're not happy with the way things went on Capitol Hill in 2009. Why not start there and work on expanding the common groung, rather than finding reasons to offend those who disagree with us, and make those who do agree with feel like quitting?
I decided to post this because people were being misled and I knew the truth. Whether or not Annabel's volunteerism in 2008 election is a valid reason to walk away from the table is something that people can decide for themeselves. If a million people decide not to write us off, so be it. At they'll make their choice with accurate information.
Meghan McCain might make a good president, not John
John was ready to bomb N. Korea, bomb Iran, and get actively involved in the Russia-Georgia war. If he'd won, the only thing keeping him from being removed from office would have been the widespread fear of having Palin as President. I think the country dodged a bullet with that election, fairly literally.
But Meghan seems to at least have a decent sense of what American sensibilities are these days. Maybe after a second term for Obama, and two terms for Hillary, she'll be ready to move into the White House.
John McCain
John McCain also wanted to give AMNESTY to Illegal Aliens. You're right, the old man was as clueless as Jorge Booooooosh and Luis Gutierrez...
Meghan McCain
GET ON YOUR BIKES AND RIDE!!!!!!
You've got to be kidding.
You said:
"McCain would have made a great president. I'll bet the vast majority of Obama voters would agree with me on that."
You're in some kind of tea party fog, I believe. McCain was clueless about the state of the economy when we were well into the dive to to the bottom. His most likely choice for Treasury Secretary was Phil Gram who famously said that the recession was all in our heads. And if all the other indicators of poor judgement don't ring true with you, remember that he is the one who wanted to put Sarah Palin one breath away from the Presidency. McCain a great president? If you believe that Dubya was a great president, then you probably would have loved McCain as well, but it would have been an emotional connection, not one based on factual data.
McCain sold out
I liked, and respected John McCain up to the point he sold out, and made peace with the Religious Right. After that John was having a fire sale for any votes he could gain, and I lost all respect for John.
Same here.
It was exactly when he started courting the religious right and stopped calling them out for what they are that he lost my respect. And it was after I lost respect for him that I really started taking a harder look at him.
I hope you're wrong about Phil Graham as Treasury Sec
I suppose my apprecation for John McCain is partly emotional. He has made some choices I don't agree with, but he is an American hero with a life of public service and he has been a great statesman for many years. He showed tremendous courage and integrity during the 2008 primary race when the other candidates were trying to appeal to anti-immigrantion sentiment being stoked in the media, and beating him up for having proposed a fix to the problem known as illegal immigration. He proved that the majority of Republicans are sensible, tolerant, and patriotic voters.
If 47% of America had voted for Tom Tancredo in 2008, I'd be a lot less confident that we will soon unite as a country and meet the challenges we face in the 21st century.
It's Phil Gramm
We both spelled it wrong. Read this:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24844889/
or this:
http://www.usnews.com/money/blogs/capital-commerce/2008/4/18/gramm-speak...
or just Google "Phil Gramm treasury secretary" to find a plethora of articles on the subject.
If you didn't already know this, I wonder where you were during the campaign. This was widely reported and Gramm was traveling with McCain all over the country during the campaign. I hope you at least know what Gramm's contribution to the current economic meltdown was - in relation to the deregulation that allowed the banks to merge into mega-giants and leverage the hell out of their assets in creating the biggest casino the world has ever known? Just read about his involvement from his Wikipedia page, if you need to. There is plenty more that has been written about Gramm-Leach-Blily.
As far as McCain being a great patriot, I'm ambivalent on that. I was disappointed that he lost to W in the primary for the 2000 election. I might have voted for him had he won. I would have never and never have voted for a Bush of any kind.
If you really look at McCain's military record, what comes out is that he is a spoiled brat. He graduated the Naval Academy at the bottom of his class. He'd have been expelled for behavior if he hadn't been a double legacy. He lost at least two planes prior to be shot down in Viet Nam. That would have grounded most pilots, but the McCain name saved him again. By his own admission, he ignored his SAM warning and failed to evade the missile that shot him down. He has always led a privileged life. He has always been on public health care and has never in his life had to apply for a job in the private sector. He is as far removed from working and middle class Americans as anyone can get.
Are you the owner/moderator of this site?
At least he was in the military
The military is full of spoiled brats. But at least he was in the military and was in harm's way. I'll give him and anyone else that did it their due. Now as for Bush and Cheney...
I think Senator McCain sold his soul in order to run for President. I don't really like McCain, just on general principles, but I think he had to bend himself into a pretzel in order to make himself look 'acceptable' to the American people. And I don't think he bends all that well. If McCain had been McCain, I think it would have been a fairer race.
McCain has been a pretty good Senator, but Senators are 1 of 100. He has stood some ground, but in the end he is a Republican and a middle of the road one at that.
I for one am glad he didn't win.
In 2000
I wish he'd have won the Republican nomination for 2000. I think he'd have been a clear winner for the presidency and wouldn't have needed SCOTUS intervention to install him. I have a feeling he would have been a much better president than Bush, but that's just Monday morning quarterbacking and we'll never know.
He's been a politician now for most of his life and he's never been poor or even working class. Indications from him are that he is clueless about what working people have to do to make ends meet, and I'm talking about basics, not fancy homes, cars, and home theater systems. Back when he was in the military and rubbing elbows with regular people, we had a much larger middle class and a much smaller percentage of families below the poverty line. In those days, whether he knew it or not, many of the guys who were fueling and fixing his aircraft were also collecting food stamps to feed their families. But moving from poverty into the middle class in those days was more of a real possibility than it is today. McCain and his cohorts are oblivious to these negative changes in our society. They need to be replaced with people who are more in touch with the grassroots in this country.
Woops! His name is Gramm
I knew Gramm was a top advisor and I am well aware of his hand in causing the economic crisis. I was very concerned about that potential choice. But I'd like to think that the financial market crisis in September 2008 would have caused John McCain to think better of the "deregulation" creedo which had been the prevailing wisdom especially among conservatives for many years. I think if McCain had won, Republicans would have taken the financial crisis very seriously and done all in their power to avoid a second Great Depression, they might even have reconsidered some of their assumptions about free markets regulating themselves.
But please, enough with the McCain bashing. Anyone who flew a plane in battle for this country is hero to me.
I am the first moderator, but we are buiding a team of moderators. I was pressed into service without actually knowing much about websites at all. Even now the only thing I know how to work here is the blog and the log-in process. This happened really suddenly so it's all in flux. I'll continue to post but less in the future.
Except for a few NE Republican Senators.
the GOP has voted against everything, including McCain. That includes TARP and the stimulus. Your suggesting they are acting like angry petulant chidren who can't have their way. I agree.
Isn't this a bit
Isn't this a bit short-sighted? A NO vote isn't necessarily a bad vote. If there hasn't been enough compromise in the thing being voted on, why should anything but a NO vote be the right choice?
Over 160 GOP amendments
There are over 160 GOP amendments that were added to the house bill prior to the most recent 4 that the President added after the summit. It's beyond ironic that the rhetoric that the cons continues to use against the bill is its size. The main reason that it has grown so big is that the Democrats have bent over backwards to include the GOP ideas in the bill, but Boener and McConnell continue to say the same things over and over and over because they resonate with folks who just listen to them and don't actually pay attention to what is going on. Note that FOX news only reports the cons rhetoric and never mentions all the compromise that has actually taken place. Even the main things that the cons gripe about - tort reform and selling across state lines are included in the bill. But the cons are like spoiled children - they got exactly the toy they asked for but it just isn't the color they wanted so they continue to cry about it.
The absolute best way (per the CBO) that has been proposed to hold down costs in medical insurance is to have a public option available for those who buy their insurance on the open market. There are two ways to do this. The first one is to open Medicare to all who want to buy into it. That saves something like $120 Billion. The other way is to start up a new bureaucracy to administer a public option and that would still save about $25 Billion per the CBO. Those two proposals were the first that were opposed by the cons. To be fair, the insurance companies oppose both of those and we know that the GOP will do what the insurance companies want. We are now seeing which Democrats are also doing the bidding of the insurance companies, because there is a huge public outcry for a public option, but little actual action in the halls of congress to make it so.
The federal government is not the enemy of the people in the health care debate. The enemy is the health insurance companies who are profiting from people's misery.
But remember that in doing nothing, your insurance premiums will continue to rise (mine have seen increases of between 20% and 40% for every one of the past 9 years). This bill, as imperfect as it is, will, per the CBO, stabilize insurance rates for the vast majority of Americans, and lower premiums for millions. The cons complain about a "government takeover" of 6% of the U.S. economy. There is nothing in the bill that comes close to a "government takeover". And although medical care is presently 6% of the economy, if nothing is done, it will grow to be an even larger portion. The bill will at least stabilize the rate of growth. Opposing health care reform and health insurance reform is just like driving towards a bridge that is out and shrugging because it is just too complicated to turn the steering wheel and find another route.
informative post, 61 gop amendments to Senate bill.
Seems someone wants it both ways.
The stimulus bill included numerous tax cuts
suggested by the GOP. They still refused to vote on it. Jim DeMint declared that HCR would be Obama's "Waterloo", wich suggest a political calculation. The Obama Administration has offered compromise numerous times without any reciprocation from the right. The Health Care bill contains numerous provisions suggested by Republicans in commitee, again with no results. The GOP is well on its way to breaking last years record for fillibusters, none of this suggest any attempt of compromise by the right. Just a political calculation.
I wasn't bashing McCain
I was just stating facts. If you consider that bashing, I must be in the wrong place. I was in the same war at the same time and I know that he was held to completely different standards. Flying in the U.S. military, especially flying fighters, is a highly sought-after assignment that very few are afforded. Had he been held to the same standards as more qualified Cadets, he would have never flown at all.
Nothing like the facts!!
Way to go Annabel!! We have to continue with the rapid response of facts and correcting any misinformation immediately!
We are looking forward to our Austin CPM launch event!!
Thanks, we love you Austin
FYI Annabel isn't blogging here. When and if she does, you'll know it. I'm just the first of many spokespersons.
