Starting more groups, editing current groups, etc...

In two weeks time, Coffee Party USA will be releasing an internal Facebook type application specifically for members of the Coffee Party website.  Until then, we are asking that everyone make due with the tools they have currently.  This new platform will knock your socks off.

Please bear with us.  We built it, you came, we have to remodel.

Hoping for Reasonable Dialogue

I hope that this is a group of people who realize that we are not entitled to our opinions. As soon as we allow that sort of talk, reasonable governance goes out the window and people with different opinions simply shout at each other. We must have justifications for our positions; otherwise, no amount of discussion and compromise will lead to good policy. In order for debate to be purposeful, it is necessary to have certain premises and definitions in common, and this seems to be an intended function of the United States Constitution. If we forsake the Constitution now, it sets a bad precedent for any sort of unspoken "democratic civility" we may agree upon now.

I had originally hoped that the Tea Parties represented something like what I just stated, but they have not yet articulated anything like it clearly. However, I can say from personal experience that they are unjustly demonized and made to seem strange and purely anti-Obama. I was at the big march on D.C., and the crazy signs of Hitler mustaches and such were mostly from LaRouche Democrats who had tagged along for attention. We should be wary of demonizing the Tea Parties, lest the Coffee Party and the Tea Party eventually become nothing but the Republicans and Democrats by different names.

Coffee Party organization

Hi Everyone,
I am happy to join this organization. Very needed, I think. Although I qualify for the Tea Party (I'm white and nearing Medicare age), I do not think Obama is a socialist or a Nazi. Furthermore, I actually know the definitions of these characterizations! I come from a long line of Eisenhower Republicans and a shorter line of John Birchers. As such, I have a strange mélange of liberal, libertarian, and conservative beliefs. Hoping to meet some independent souls with an eye to intelligent and civil political discourse and action.

OC Meetings on 3/27... so far...

Hello OC CPMers,

Currently there are two meetings scheduled so far. One in Brea and the other in Huntington Beach. We hard that there would be two meetings in South OC near Laguna Niguel and near Mission Viejo but we haven't seen any details from the organizers, yet. We are also considering an Irvine meeting in the afternoon, too.

Any thoughts?

Facebook, bah!

I don't do facebook; or myspace; I especially do not twitter...

I'm still hoping important bits of information will be posted here without my having to consider these other means of being connected.

For the record, there is a lot to object to in terms of using the popular online networking sites and applications. My favorite, or least favorite depending on how you want to phrase it, is the commercial dimension: I don't want to become another set of statistics to help advertisers target and refine their attempts to sell things.

I'm new

I actually tried to join this group on the 12th., but the main site was so confusing I made mistakes. I think I actually attempted to sign up for the admin group---hm, wonder if they will accept me, gawd I hope not.

Anyway, I hope I'm connected now and can join in future events.

Oh, btw, just another jab in the ribs to the organizers and coders: please reorganize the main site, there are a few threads on the forums page that actually make some good suggestions to this end, but good luck finding them if you wait too long.

This is me:

Revised "Just trying to help"

I’ve have a few ideas’ that may help the gatherings, and maybe you could use a few or not. Again, I’m just trying to lend a hand…

Praise everyone for their involvement and for coming etc.

Present agenda’s, our mission, and an agreement to allow ALL those to have a voice for the gathering, whomever is speaking first should be more of a mediator. When open discussion begins for each group, lets all not talk at once and over each other. Basically, try to be a organized as possible throughout the duration of the meeting. The chapter leader decides the meeting is officially over, and open for open forum etc. Try to keep the venting, flirting, and the rhetoric to a minimum.

FYI: It is constructive positive action that is needed – now.

I recommend that each of use always respectfully listen & do your best to learn from those that produce absolute truth and absolute unequivocal fact. Ancient Hawaiians sailed their vessels from using the stars, the moon, the currents, the clouds, the birds that visited their canoes, and even what types of fish they caught to give them the correct or best direction possible. They did not turn or raise a sail in any direction unless these absolute facts presented themselves first. Negotiate/discus, and then agree to a particular process, application, or system – democratically for each obstacle that is presented. Remember, the answers to the who, what, when, where, how, and why’s usually give us the best direction to then navigate.

Commit to following through or taking the proper legal and safe action for all to get the desired results. And, stay in touch with chapter leaders on real progress, be it large or small so give more praise to those that are applying their knowledge.

End gatherings always on a positive and uplifting note.

Oh, very important! This is not a cult and should never be perceived as one, so please keep politics and religion separate. God, Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Zeus, or whoever is always with us, but I think they’ll understand that we’re trying to bring people together in a civil and courteous arena. I’m very sure that the gods will give us a little freedom to get stuff done.

The next step.

I'm very proud to have been apart of Orange County's first meeting of The Coffee Party. Joining on Facebook and here is great but we need physical bodies in numbers to raise real awareness of our message of cooperation. Make it to the next meeting in your area!

Ideal Subject Matter for the Meetings

Fellow Citizens,

I have authored a book that explains a specific strategy to regain control of our federal government. Though listening carefully, I’ve heard of no other solutions being offered so far. The book includes as yet unspoken analysis, entirely unique perspectives, a full explanation of the logic leading to my conclusions and a step-by-step plan that could enable the masses to re-establish control of our Federal government. Here's a sample

Votimate Our Politics

Our country needs a new way of doing business. Under the current system politicians have many motivations. This strategy could reduce their need for multiple motivations. This strategy could help create a system where politicians are:

Votimated

Politicians Motivated for Votes Only

PREFACE

We’ve heard from the Politicians, the Pundits, the Experts and from all of those who can buy a platform from which to speak, yet nary an answer for that which ails our country. Clearly it is getting worse with no end in sight. Perhaps it is time to hear from “Joe Public.”

I can’t say that I speak for the 99%, but I come from the 99% and after losing everything, perhaps even the bottom percent. How can the 1% get away with robbing and causing such harm to the 99% when the 99% of us control the vote? Armed only with the logic of a layman and the urgent need of a pauper I drilled down deep into this dilemma and made some discoveries that might be worth hearing.

The first several chapters offer unique, unspoken perspectives, intended to expose, categorize, organize and simplify the basic core issues within the bigger issue, our politics, or more specifically, our lack of effective governance for the 99%. The next several chapters offer unique comparative analysis, completely “out of the beltway” ideas and surprisingly possible solutions to the core problems. The final few chapters include stunning, previously undisclosed analysis exposing clearly why we must take action soon - and what the result of taking action could mean for us.

This is not just conceptual. I propose specific action. This is “nuts and bolts.” This is “what’s the next step”, a potential roadmap to restoring a government that works for us, the 99%. Restoring our democracy is the only issue worth talking about. Until we adapt and upgrade our political system, the 99% will continue to lose. Until we do, nothing else matters. Without a functioning government, we have nothing.

INTRODUCTION

I’m not experienced with politics and have no education in economics. Like many, I’ve lost everything and see little happening to bring me hope while watching our country implode seemingly like never before. This is saying a lot because at 54 years old, I survived the horrific Richard Nixon 30,000-dead-to-get-re-elected-war/impeach-a-crook-Watergate era.

Many of us are in need of hope. They say that need is the mother of invention. America is in need of solutions. While most solutions to complex issues include in-depth analysis and long explanations, true also in this case, like most straightforward arguments, mine too has a short answer. So I’ll cut to the chase and work my way backward.

In January 2010, while watching the disturbing display of the four “Too Big To Fail” banksters acting innocent and clueless in front of Congress, I found myself wondering, “How can our country become as successful as these corporations have become?” Even more to the point, how can we, Joe Public, benefit from our government like their shareholders benefit from their successful banking corporations? After all, who would argue that those corporations have pimped our system and punked us all? We know it. They know it. Everyone knows it.

Simply put, it is an industry licensed by, governed by and residing in the United States of America that has become more powerful than the Federal Government of The United States of America. That’s a mouthful. Other than two senseless wars, this is the worst realization of my lifetime. It’s huge. It cannot be overstated. It is bleeding us dry and I don’t see it changing on it’s own. It has stolen our Democracy. But what on earth can we do about it?

The status quo approach would be to peck away at it with legislation that will start with good intentions, but with powerful lobby bribes end up watered down, rendered ineffective and/or reversed by the next congress and administration. First, it is: our political/governing system needs an overhaul from the bottom up. It no longer works, which begs one of many questions, “which specific part is broken?”

To that purpose, I analyzed the differences between how the Wall Street banksters and health insurance providers do business from within their system – the free market corporate model – and compared it to the way the U.S. Government, does business from within our current political/governing system. I drilled down deep and what I found astounded me and might surprise you too. They are very different. Ergo, it’s the differences in the two structures/systems that allow the banksters and insurance providers to be so successful while operating from within theirs and what makes our government fail while operating from within ours, which allows private industry to dominate us.

By comparing the structures side-by-side it became obvious; the deficiencies in our system of governing are glaring and alarming when compared to their adapted, efficiently incentivized system. Upon identifying it the ultimate question arose, “how can we fix it?” The answer to fixing it is surprisingly obvious and has been readily apparent all along, despite the requisite in-depth analysis and long explanation disclosed herein.

My argument’s short answer is to propose applying elements of their successful free market corporate model to our system of politics and governance and we, Joe Public, should be rewarded like shareholders of a successful corporation. Once you go to this simple, logical perspective fantastic advantages naturally arise benefiting the citizens of America, not just the chosen few as it is now. On the following pages I will propose specific, step-by-step methods to reigning in the parasites.

Paradigm Shift

In my view, we can’t expect this type of “system overhaul” perspective and change to come from – or to be driven by – politicians fighting for their careers within our broken system. Ever since special interest groups have been counting profits in the billions, maybe even trillions, they’re far too powerful and already own our political/governing system.

If ever a “grass roots movement” were needed, it is for this “paradigm shift.” The 99% must conceive and drive this change and do it soon or our beloved country will implode from the unintended consequences of insatiable special interest capitalism. So let’s take a page from those who are doing it to us and make it work for us. With the strategy outlined herein, “we the shareholders” can take our government back from special interests.

United and armed with this plan, we can simply insist.

To find out more, visit votimate.com. I have lowered the cost for the “download” format to my cost only, $1.49, through Friday, March 12. You can find the “download” option just under the “Add to Cart” button on the right side of my publisher’s page. By Saturday, March 13th, the price will go back to $10 for the immediate download and Ebook versions. You won't be disappointed.

RE:Mar 6 meeting in Irvine. Dont think I can make this one...

Though I am truly enthused by what I am reading and seeing in relation to this "movement". It's all about US (we, the people), the civic centers and regaining the commons. On a personal note, I was involved in opening Green Party HQ in New Orleans back in 2000. I am currently split between Las Vegas and Irvine. Lived in Irvine for last three years and am moving to Vegas right now (next two months) I do plan to be active in both chapters if possible. Look forward to meeting you all and making this happen. It's not too late!

Cheers to all,

patrick

Except for phonebanking for Obama I haven't really been active in local politics, but I think now with the rise of Palin, Beck et. al its time to stand up and do something.

Just Joined OC Chapter

I am a new member and live in Costa Mesa. I am excited about joining people who want to change the ways things are done. Let's get away from corporate rule of America. I think we need to organize and expand first and reach a consensus on what issues we should tackle first. Let's be solution-oriented. Thanks!

Just joined OC Coffee Party

I am very concerned about the corporate take-over of America. I would like to see Tea Party members AND Coffee Party members join together to find a way to take back our country. Have you noticed the Republican and Democratic Party seem to be one and the same?

I believe we need a NEW strong party or Parties for the people and by the people instead of what we have now, a 2 party system that is corrupt to the gills and is in the hip pockets of Corporate America. I, for one, have had enough!! Republicans that fight every move made by Progressives and Democrats without the guts to stand up to them!!!!!! Thank goodness for people like Thom Hartmann, Rachael Maddow, Kieth Olberman and Al Franken. The right-wing political talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, etc. have stirred Americans against each other, conservatives vs. liberals. This is poisoning America. It's high time Progressives counter these toxic and dangerous people.

I hope enough of us will band together and stem the tide of Facism. Anyone read Sinclair Lewis's IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE? It's a real eye opener. You'll find the likes of Limbaugh, et al in the novel.

Some of you are further south?

I was told that some of you may be in San Diego County & I would like to talk to people who would like to connect in North (San Diego) County. I am in Carlsbad & have been told that there may be some Oceanside people in this group.
http://www.facebook.com/BigManWalking?ref=profile

That's my facebook profile & I'm up for connecting with lots of Coffee Party people, as long as they are not trolls in disguise, no matter where they are geographically. Have an awesome day!

Hello OC members of Coffee Party!

Hello to any interested members of Coffee Party- I joined today after the link in the WaPo. Like Annabelle, I am tired of the hate filled partisan gridlock. I would love to find ways for citizens to work with government to find solutions to our problems.
I would enjoy hearing from others in OC who share these ideas.

Agreed with WChip

Ever since I was registered to vote, I voted for Republican party line. Then 2nd term Bush administration made me switch party and vote for Obama. Now I am not happy with Obama's money throwing away to big corporations and to all other liberal agendas.

I do not really care either elephant or donkey in the office as long as they can do the job. Unfortunately non of those two parties can handle the job managing this great country.

Hopefully this new movement can help this country back on the feet. If we can put Obama in the office I am sure we can also change the way Washington runs this country.

throwing away money hold on

george w bush signed the tarp fund bill check it out for yourself. It is illegal for any judge or jury to look at. W bush also sighned away our Habius Corpus in 2006.
